December 2009

Cycles of Expansion and Contraction
Conversations with the Moon

The first full moon of December (there are two this month) takes place on Tuesday, December 1st, at 11:31pm Pacific Time. This full moon occurs in the lunar sign of Rohini, known for its tendency to spur growth.

Many of us seem to instinctively feel that we're witnessing a global metamorphosis. Social institutions like churches and higher education, the global economy, value systems, and the environment, are some of the collective areas in which this change seems to be occurring. But the change is occurring on individual levels too. Where is this change taking place inside you?

This full moon cycle will continue to feed an expansion before ultimately contracting. What does this mean for you? Examine carefully, the areas of your life you are "growing." Where are you spending your resources (time, money, energy)? Nature expands and contracts. Nothing infinitely expands. Contractions are natural. Rejoice in the growth inherent in this lunar cycle without demanding that the growth occur indefinitely.

Pay attention to how you make choices, and see if that method really supports your innermost knowing of which direction to take. Tune in to all your senses. Notice what your heart says. Notice what you feel in your gut.

Remember that whatever you put your attention on, grows. Where are you placing your precious attention?

Write this day/time into your calendar:
Wednesday, December 16, at 4:02am Pacific Time.
This new moon takes place in the vedic lunar sign of Moola. This day will be excellent for getting to the bottom of things. It will require telling the truth, and looking deeply at beginnings, and examining the source of whatever issue is coming up.

Living in Accord with the Seasons

Two significant astrological events occur this month. The first is a conjunction between Mercury and Pluto in the sign of Sagittarius, a week before the new moon, on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 7 and 8. We are all more likely to speak with conviction, to want to uncover the real truth behind things, and to feel self-righteous about speaking our minds. It might not be a bad idea to err on the side of gentleness and diplomacy for the week leading up to the full moon.

The second significant event in the month of December is a conjunction of Neptune to Jupiter, just as both planets enter the vedic sign of Aquarius. This conjunction is likely to see human idealism heading in the directions of technology and global community.

Venus continues to travel with the Sun in the vedic sign of Scorpio, until the new moon when the Sun moves into Sagittarius. For the first two weeks of December, bonding with others over intense circumstances is more likely than usual.

Mars moved into the sign of Cancer on October 4, staying in his sign of debilitation for almost eight months, until the end of May. In competitive areas of life, this placement of Mars may incline us toward playing an offensive, rather than a defensive game. Cultivate the balance of these forces as you go about achieving your dreams.

Now in the sign of Virgo until November 2011, Saturn is hard at work on issues like unemployment and healthcare. Individually, we can each utilize Saturn's placement to make efforts and set plans in motion to improve physical and financial health.

Notice what doesn't change, even when everything around you does. Coming from this place of what doesn't change - this is one way of apprehending enlightenment.

December 2006

This Fertile Soil
Watching the Vedic Moon

The Full Moon of December 2006
happens on Monday, December 4, at 4:26pm Pacific Time, in the lunar sign of Rohini.

Rohini's energy supports growth of all kinds, particularly material, physical plane, earthy, tangible growth - it's sort of like the Chia Pet part of the night sky - just add water and watch it grow!!

For all you fans of the movie "The Secret", this full moon is a particularly fertile time for manifestation. So in fact, pay attention to your thoughts around this full moon, because they are being broadcast into Rohini's domain, and Her job is to materialize your broadcasts. With strong aspects from Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, the energy of this full moon may find us feeling both energized, and pressured to deliver material results.

Another noticeable energetic quality to Rohini nakshatra, is that of charm, magnetism, cheerfulness, entertainment, allure. With all the other planets in Scorpio influencing this full moon however, we may have to dig deeply into intense situations to uncover this lighthearted playfulness, willing to crack a silly joke while the others are taking themselves oh so very seriously.

Sundial The astrological landscape includes:

Five planets are in Scorpio at the time of the full moon on Dec. 4/5 , which brings on the imperative to shed the old and move into the new.

Jupiter, Mars and Mercury all inhabit Scorpio from Dec. 5 - Dec. 23, bringing about proactive transformation, especially around the issues of the Scorpio house in your birth chart.

Rahu and the outer planet Uranus are both moving through the sign of Aquarius beginning Nov. 2006 for over a year, creating massive technological innovations, social revolutions and increasing open-mindedness. We may see the internet become what it was foreseen to be in the 90's - a revolution in the way we live and interact and do business - the global village.

Sun, Mercury, Venus and Pluto all share the sign of Sagittarius from about Mid-Dec. until the end of Dec. - just in time for Christmas parties.. This bodacious, risk friendly, dynamic quartet are likely to bring big fun, heated opinions, and big splashes around the holidays.

The Rose in the Deeps of His Heart
by William Butler Yeats

All things uncomely and broken,
all things worn-out and old,
The cry of a child by the roadway,
the creak of a lumbering cart,

The heavy steps of the ploughman,
splashing the wintry mould,
Are wronging your image that blossoms
a rose in the deeps of my heart.

The wrong of unshapely things
is a wrong too great to be told;
I hunger to build them anew
and sit on a green knoll apart,

With the earth and the sky and the water,
remade, like a casket of gold
For my dreams of your image that blossoms
a rose in the deeps of my heart.
